Bonfire Night is on Thursday 5 November. Whether you are feeding the family in the back garden, running a stall at a school or community bonfire, or doing food for a club night, hot dogs are the easiest thing to serve hot to a lot of people. This guide works out how many you need and what it costs when you buy by the case.

How many hot dogs do you need for a bonfire party?

A good rule is one and a half to two hot dogs per adult and one per child. For a typical garden bonfire of 20 people that is around 35 hot dogs. For a school or community event of 100 people, plan on 150 or more, because people come back for seconds when it is cold.

What a case of Princes hot dogs gives you

Princes 8 Hot Dogs 400g (Case of 12) is £13.99 at Adomoo. Each 400g tin holds 8 hot dogs, so a case of 12 tins gives you 96 hot dogs. That is about £1.17 a tin, or roughly 15p a hot dog.

  • Garden bonfire for about 20 people: 4 to 5 tins, so one case leaves plenty in the cupboard.
  • Party or club night for 50: about 10 tins, one case.
  • School or community bonfire for 100 or more: two cases.

Tinned hot dogs keep in the cupboard, so anything left over after Thursday is ready for Christmas parties, packed lunches or the next match day.

Please note: the product description lists mechanically separated chicken and pork rind, so these are not suitable for halal or vegetarian guests. Plan a separate option for them.

Easy ways to serve them outside

Drain the tins and heat the hot dogs gently in a large pan of water. Keep the water hot rather than boiling hard, and they will stay warm for the whole evening. Set up a table away from the fire with rolls, ketchup, mustard and fried onions so people can help themselves.

For a bigger event, two people can run it: one keeping the pan topped up and one handing out rolls. Napkins and paper trays make it easy for people to eat while they watch the fireworks.

Allergy information

Our product listing gives the main ingredients as mechanically separated chicken and pork rind in brine. We do not have the full allergen list in our feed, so please check the label on the tin before serving, especially for guests with allergies.
