In 1885, Carlos Serres arrived in the town of Haro -Rioja Alta- from the city of Bordeaux. This was a one-way journey. He was the only Frenchman who remained in the Spanish town once the solution to the phylloxera pest was discovered. In Bordeaux, the phylloxera pest had compromised winemaking. Carlos found in Haro, the perfect terroir to make Bordeaux-style wines. Today, more than 125 years later, at Bodegas Carlos Serres we continue this legacy of when Rioja wine was becoming world-renown.

Vinification Details: The grapes are handpicked mid-October and fermented in stainless steel, after gentle destemming and pressing. There is a brief period of cold maceration, after which the juice ferments at a controlled temperature of no more than 26º C for 10 days. The wine is aged for 6 months in American and French oak barrels.

Regional Information: Wine produced under the principle of organic viticulture and EU certified organic CPAER (Consejo de la Producción Agraria Ecológica de La Rioja). The Tempranillo grapes for this wine were sourced from a select group of growers around Haro, Rioja Alta, who have long-term exclusive contracts with the winery. The winery jointly manages the tending of all the vineyards to ensure the utmost fruit quality, with continuous monitoring during the growing cycle.
